What is(was) your professional/stage/working name?
I shoot porn as Scarlett Chaos, and do PSO and Domme work under the name Mistress Curie
What city(ies) do you work in now (if you’re still working), or did you work in (if no longer working in the sex industry)?
Currently in Phoenix. In the past, Denver, and have shot porn in San Francisco, DC and Seattle.
How old are you now?
24 (I’m 23, but my birthday is in less than a week!)
At what age did you engage in your first professional sexual experience?
21
Describe your first professional sexual experience, including what happened, how you felt, what you were thinking, how you felt afterward.
I signed up for NiteFlirt (www.niteflirt.com/sexyfemme), and started taking all types of calls. However, I felt like I had to pretend I was something I wasn’t, so I set up a few girl next door style accounts. Most of my calls really made me anxious, because here I was, this queer dyke, trying to tell horny men that I had 36DDs and was a bi-curious blonde college student trying to pay my way through college by sucking their big, fat cocks and faking orgasm. I burnt out of that really fast, because I finished the conversation feeling like I was tricking them, and feeling icky. I gave up on it.
Then, when I came back to it, I re-did my profiles, and presented myself as a Domme, which I feel completely confident doing. I didn’t feel like I was making things up, or that I failed at describing things that I had never experienced. Just like I choose to shoot porn that respects identity, I choose to do PSO and Pro Domme work that represents myself.
While some bits of sex work still require a bit of play-acting or role-playing, I’m being true to myself, which makes me love the work I do.
At what age did you entertain the first (serious) thoughts of going into sex work?
18. I actually always wanted to be a stripper/dancer. However, I have arthritis, which prevents long nights of dancing, as well as am a plus sized, alternative woman, so it wasn’t ever really an option. However, then I realized that there many other parts of the industry I could do, despite my disability and appearance.
What made you decide to enter the line of work you’re in?
I’ve wanted to be in porn the first time I saw porn that represented me; queer women, fat women, alternative women, etc. I wanted to show the world that people can be sexy, regardless of size, hair color, ability level, orientation, gender presentation, etc. I wanted to be part of the sex-positive revolution. That’s why I chose porn. I do PSO and Pro Domme work because I am in kinky in my personal life, and love playing with, sceneing with, and dominating people.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
That I can be myself and embrace my sexuality as part of my work.
What do you like the least about your work?
I never know if I’ll be able to pay my bills. Also, when I leave NiteFlirt on over night, and get a call just as I’m drifting off to sleep.
Does your family know what you do? If so, what do they think?
They know parts of it. For some reason, PSO work, and Pro Domme work is more “acceptable” than porn, so they know about those parts.
Do you have a spouse, partner or significant other, and if so, do they know about what you do? If so, what do they think?
My partner knows all the work I do, and is incredibly supportive of it.
How much longer do you think you’ll do what you’re doing now, and what are your plans for when you quit? If you’ve already left, what made you decide to leave and what did you decide to do for work when you left?
Some parts, I will do as long as I can. I love shooting porn – it’s really fun to me. I love sex, I love having sex, and I’m a total exhibitionist. Plus, making porn is a statement for me. Most people would never view me as a “porn star.” But here I am, never the less. I’ll probably do less sex work as I fulfill my dream job goals, but I feel like sexuality work will always be part of my life.
Describe your educational background.
I have an undergrad degree in Sociology and German, and a graduate degree in Human Sexuality. I hope to go for my doctorate eventually.
If you had to go back and tell your younger self (mid to late teens) that you’d be doing what you’re doing now (assuming you’re still working in the sex industry), what do you think your younger self would say about it?
I think my younger self would be pretty impressed with how I correlate my views of feminism with sex work, and would enjoy that I love my job so much.
What advice would you give someone who was looking to get into your line of sex work?
Make sure it’s what you want to do. Stay true to yourself – if you don’t want to be an escort, find a different part of the industry that works for you. If you’re the wholesome girl next door, make that work for you. If you’re a adorable hippy, make that work for you. If you’re a tattooed alternative chick, make that work for you.
If you’re worried about how people will view you if they find out, really think about it before you get into it. Basically, think of the worst case scenario, if everyone you know found out. Would you still make it through, and be ok, or would it break you? Talk to other sex workers about safety measures – we all have different ways of protecting ourselves, our identities, our freedom, etc.
